August 2, 2023: Congratulations to STEMS Lab member Joshua Mathew for being chosen to present his REU project research titled An analysis of sidewalk infrastructure in and around Middletown, Pennsylvania at the Annual Meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (MASITE) on September 10-11 at Hershey, PA. Joshua’s research (funded by the Penn State REU Program) discusses the impact of sidewalk infrastructure on mobility and access to opportunities such as transit, healthy foods, and healthcare. The findings of this work are based on data collected from Middletown, PA, a small rural/suburban PA town.

March 30, 2023: Joshua Mathew, an undergraduate student in Electrical Engineering at Penn State Harrisburg, will work with Nikhil Menon on his Multi-Campus Research Experience for Undergraduates (MC REU) program at Penn State Harrisburg during the Summer of 2023. Joshua will be working on the topic How does lack of sidewalk infrastructure affect peoples' life?

November 4, 2022: Nikhil Menon was invited to lecture at the graduate forum hosted by the Tsinghua University School of Civil Engineering. He presented his work (virtually) titled Household Family Dynamics and Telecommuting: Findings from the United States of America.
October 11, 2022: Congratulations to STEMS Lab member Catherine Suria for presenting her REU project research titled Assessing the Impact of Micromobility Improvements on Accessibility to Essential Services: Findings from a Low‐Income Community at the Annual Meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (MASITE) on October 2-3, 2022, in Dewey Beach, DE. Catherine’s research (funded by the Penn State REU Program) models how the introduction of micromobility systems (such as bike-share systems) enhances accessibility to economic opportunities (education, jobs, healthcare) in Middletown, PA, and Harrisburg, PA, and presents important findings highlighting the need to invest in sustainable transportation systems for upward mobility.

This poster was presented as part of the Penn State Harrisburg Research Exhibition held on April 22nd.
